Suggest Treatment For Tonsillitis

My son is 14, he has very large tonsils. Which occasionally get infected requiring two rounds of antibiotics. He complains when participating in sports that they interfere with breathing. He feels like he can t get air down his throat. An inhaler does nothing.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
I understand concern for your son.
Tonsillitis is inflammation of tonsil glands. It is caused due to repeated infection.
Since, infection is not responding well to the treatment with antibiotics, it says that conservative line of management is no longer effective. Also, it has enlarged and causing trouble for breathing.
Hence, in his case, there is no point in wasting time and you need to go in for removal of tonsils by 'tonsillectomy'.
Kindly consult ENT surgeon in this regard for a clinical opinion and proper management.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
All the best.
