Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Tonsillitis And Glandular Fever

Hi my daughter is 25, she is very run down at present. I took her to A&E as she couldn't get in to see aGP. They said she has tonsillitis and possible glandular fever. Her throat is completely white and glands all swollen. However her gums are extremely inflamed and red and very sore, they say it is not connected and unsure what it is. These symptoms have all occurred at the same time. What are your thoughts?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Tonsillitis along with fever and swollen glands can be the symptoms of Glandular fever and inflammation of gums can occur occur due to infection and it is not an abnormal or uncommon finding..
Therefore all the symptoms are related to infection only..
As it is a viral infection caused by Epstein Barr Virus, therefore the symptoms will resolve when the virus will complete its cycle and the treatment you can follow is to relieve the symptoms..
You can give her Acetaminoph course of sten to reduce fever, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen or Naproxen to reduce pains and swelling and inflammation in throat, glands and gums..
You can also be advised a short course of steroids..
Drink plenty of water and other fluids like soups, broth etc..

Avoid spicy and hard foods..
You can also gargle with numbing mouthwash to relieve pain and discomfort in throat as well as gums..
