Suggest Treatment For Swollen Uvula And Tonsils

I had a cold that began about 2 weeks ago. The cold went away normally after the first week but I was left 5 days ago with a swollen uvula and tonsils. I have no other symptoms aside from mucus formation at night. There is no pain present nor do I see white spots or anything unusual located in the throat aside from the swelling. I have been sucking on honey lemon cough drops with echinacea and gargling with warm salt water in addition to drinking hot tea and Emergen-C. Mucinex does get rid of the mucus formation. What could this be?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have you swollen uvula and tonsils which are actually lymph nodes in neck which are draining tonsils. The mucus you mention in query is because of sore throat ,but there can be other reasons also like acid reflux or sinusitis . I would suggest you to take stream and warm saline gargles several times a day specially before going to bed ,these two will give you lot of relief and take paracetamol for pain and inflammation .Also consult ENT specialist(ear, nose, throat) for proper examination and to rule out other conditions . Doctor may order blood test , X-ray or CT scan to find out the exact cause. He/she may prescribe antibiotic course for around week , mucolytic drug (ambroxol) or antihisamine drug.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
