Suggest Treatment For Swollen Painful Feet

Hi Doc. My brother has flat feet and they are badly swollen. He stands on them 12 hrs. a day and walks with a painful shuffle. He has been prescribed arch supports but he won t use them and he claims nothing is wrong with him but he has painful grimace on his face and his face is frowned up in pain and he stays irritable. How can we help him?

Dear concerned brother,
Yes it is indeed painful for your brother to carry on without any flat foot supportive arches.
Instead, you can get him shoes with built in arches so that he can use them for work. But he needs to recognize the trouble and motivate himself to continue its use and start physiotherapy.
Tab.Advil will keep the pain away for a while but is a temporary solution.Warm water foot bath and foot massages once a week have been beneficial to my previous patients.
Good Luck !
