Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I had what was diagnosed as a blocked salavary gland 2 years ago. over time the back molar showed an infection at the route and into the bone. This prompted a route canal/crown, still with discomfort in that area. After further examination it was found that the tooth had a vertical crack causing the infection to reoccur. After removing the tooth, the infection at the base of the route came with it...I was prescribed 500 miligrams of amoxycillin for 10 days 3x a day. Now a month later the area where all this happened still has discomfort. I was told that the lymph nodes would need about a month to fully 'drain' before swollen would be completely gone. I am concerned that the infection is still in the bone.
Yes, it is true that the lymph nodes can take a longer times to get healed once they get infected due to infection originating from the nearby area that drains into those specific lymph nodes and causing them also to get infected.. But if after a month also there is discomfort then it is probably that the infection is still lingering.. You can take a course of antibiotics like Amoxicillin along with anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and do cool compresses over the area of lymph nodes.. Do warm saline gargles..
Hopefully the symptoms will get better soon..
Regards..
