Suggest Treatment For Swollen Lump On Jaw Post Injury
Hi - I took a hockey puck to my left lower jaw about midway between my chin and the end of my jawbone near my ear. Initially there was significant pain on both sides of my jaw, but every thing, including eating and chewing seems normal now, EXCEPT for the .75-1" lump. It is tender to the touch but seems to be somewhat soft and pliable. What is the lump and how long should it last?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern... Swollen lump on jaw post injury by a hockey stick could be due to inflammation of tissues due to fracture of jaw bone. It could also be minor injury to muscles, ligament or soft tissues also. First of all you should consult an oral surgeon or a general dentist to rule-out any fracture or big injury to jaw. He would do an Xray to confirm any fracture along with checing of movement of jaw. You should avoid eating hard foods & opening your mouth too much till you consult your doctor. You could also take anti-inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen/acetaminophen for reducing the swelling & can do warm water fermentation by hot water bottle in the meanwhile.
Refer to an Oral surgeon/ dentist Hope this information helps
