Suggest Treatment For Swollen Lips After Bee Sting

I was stung be a bee on my lip and have much swelling and the swelling is spreading to my cheek. It has been two hours and the swelled area is numb. I feel much discomfort and my teeth on that side of my face hurt. Is this normal? I took benedryl and swelling has not gone down.

Hello there!
Thank you for trust in healthcaremagic,

Bee stings could have local and/or systemic reactions. If this is your first time being stung and you only have local reactions, taking Benedryl is good as Antihistamine should reduce the local reaction of the bee venom.
you can also check the site of the sting if the stinger is still present, remove it with a sharp object. Clean the site thoroughly with water and soap, apply ice or cold packs, applying a paste of water and meat tenderizer or baking soda can also help.
In case you suspect systemic reactions or have had systemic reaction to a bee sting before such as (vomiting, difficulty breathing, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, and swelling, hives or pain away from the site of the sting) go to emergency medical services.

generally stings in the mouth and nose areas should be checked by emergency medical personnel, even without systemic reaction, since swelling might interfere with breathing.

Pain and numbness at the sting site including cheeks and teeth is normal and it should last for few hours up to a week in large local reaction cases.

wishing you a speedy recovery

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Swelling of lips after bee sting is caused by chemical toxin present in bee sting which leads to swelling and redness.
The chemical agent is histamine.
Thus, anti-histaminic drugs usually help in such a situation to control the symptoms.
Benadryl is not helping, thus, you need to consult your primary healthcare provider for prescription of some other anti-histaminic.

Thanks and take care
