Hi. These glands below your ears and on the either side of your throat that are swollen and sensitive are called as lymph nodes. The presence of these suggests an infection of your ear, nose, throat or dental region. Lymph nodes being swollen and tender indicates that your body s immune system is activated. These nodes can also be enlarged in subclinical infections or autoimmune conditions where you would otherwise feel fine inspite of these being enlarged and tender. In my opinion I would advice a general check up with your primary physician and a specific examination with an ENT specialist to rule out sny possible sources of infections. A blood work up including a complete blood count is indicated to see if your cell counts are fine and if your ESR is normal. Based on this if something is picked up, it can be managed. At 64 years, it is recommended that you have an annual health check up just to keep a tab on your general health and wellbeing.
