Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I stubbed my 4th toe (next to smallest) 8 days ago and today my food & ankle area are swelling up pretty big and I have tingling and pins & needles feeling + numbness. I have not seen a dr. as there is rarely anything that can be done for a hurt toe. I m VERY concerned about the swelling and continued pain standing & walking. Should I go to the ER for x-rays?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swollen and painful ankle . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like fracture , soft tissue injury like ligament and tendon tear or joint dislocation . I would suggest you to give your foo proper rest , keep it elevated while lying down , apply warm compresses and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . Consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan , MRI along with physical examination . Doctor may give plaster for fracture , prescribe muscle relaxant along with anti inflammatory . Doctor may recommend physical therapy .
