Suggest Treatment For Swelling On The Knee

I fell onto my knee while chasing my dog. It swelled a little, but I am unable to bend it. I can put weight on it as long as it s straight. I just noticed that there seems to be a dent or horizontal crease in the knee cap that isn t present on the other one. My wife wants me to go to an ER. Should I or can I wait until I can see an orthopedist?
