Suggest Treatment For Swelling In Leg After Injury

I got into a minor 4-wheeler accident 12 days ago. My left leg hit the vehicle pretty hard, and immediately became swollen in some areas. Only my leg was hit, not including my thigh. I was able to stand up and limp. It was painful on the day of the accident, but the pain has greatly decreased over time. Nothing was broken or fractured, my joints feel well, and I can walk. However, the swelling in my leg has not completely gone away, and there is some slight bruising. The swollen parts of my leg feel hard. I never sought medical treatment for the injuries after the accident. I have been elevating my leg and putting ice on it often, every day since the accident. I also took ibuprofen for 7 days after the accident. What should I do about the swelling and hardness?

Brief:
Edema is just normal nothing to be worried about

Detailed:

Hello,

Thanks for Writing to Health Care Magic and putting trust in us regarding your Health related query.
I am Dr. Saleha and I have read your message in detail, I understand your concern and will try to help you in this.

I am sorry to know about your accident but I am glad that no major damage happened to you.
I will try to explain the reason of swelling after injuries and will also tell you how can you make your healing process fast.

When there is some injury or hit to a tissue for example part of leg, blood vessels in them get damaged, fluids and blood ooze out of the vessels and get collected around the area of damage plus it also collects in the dependent parts like ankle etc.

This is just a normal phenomenon you don't have to worry much about it specially when you are healing quite well.

Here is a set of suggestions you can follow for better healing.
A: Wrap crepe bandage around the areas hit.
B: Keep level of the legs high while sitting, put them on a table in front of you and while lying , place a pillow under them.
C: Warm compresses help relieve the problem.
D: Apply Diclofenac or Brufen creams over the areas having more problem/
E: You can take Tylenol or Brufen as pain killers, they will also control the inflammation around the area.
F: Take as much rest as you can

Don't panic it will probably take 10-15 more days and everything will be normal or close to normal.

I hope this answers your question. If you have more questions, I am happy to answer.
Wish you lasting health.

Regards.

Dr.Saleha Saeed.
