Hello,
Thank you for using HCM.
There are two issues I would like to address:
1. Stomach ulcer with dark black stools means that your boyfriend is having bleeding and this might need urgent medical attention. Fatigue might be related to vomiting and to the bleeding also. if he is loosing water and/or blood this might make him feel tired. it is very important that your boyfriend gets fluids, frequent small amounts to avoid stomach irritation and urgent medical attention if he has dark stools.
2. Information on what can help with ulcer pain- Smoking and alcohol use are risk factors and he needs to quit it if he smokes or uses alcohol. Also fried food and fast food is not good for the stomach. He might need to eat frequent small amounts of food to avoid the stomach irritation.
There are also tablets that might help with the stomach pain. Antiacids can be used at home, they are over the counter and can be used in case of pain. The doctor might prescribe him some proton pump inhibitors which reduce the amount of acid production in the stomach and sometime a tripple therapy (2 antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor) to kill helicobacter pylori (which is in many cases the cause of the ulcer) might be a help also.
These treatments are generally very successful in ulcer treatment and almost all patients get better. Rarely surgery is an indication and recently more and more rarely this is a need.
I hope this is helpful and answers to your question
