Persistent squint currently with no visual problem or associated neurological illness can be treated surgically for cosmetic purpose also.
Squint without refraction problem or palsies are usually due to counter muscle imbalance of eye, either a problem in muscles, nerves or abnormal insertion.
Stabilized squint due to muscle imbalance have best prognosis with surgery.
There are few minimal risks with surgery, but any surgery on body will always be associated with some risk in few unlucky patients.
Its safe to ahead for surgery, all the best.
