Suggest Treatment For Spreading Rashes On The Upper Arm

I started with a rash on May 15th. Went to dr May 19th. He thinks it is shingles in the very early stage and gave me anti viral prescription. It s on the bottom of my upper arm and spreading below the elbow. My main question is it is very red and inflamed from just under my armpit to about halfway down my lower arm. The blisters etc. are just on the upper arm. Just wondering if this is normal/ sounds like shingles or something else. Should I see my dr again. Thank you for your help

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history you are having insect bite dermatitis.
My treatment advice is -
1. Don't squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like fusiderm-b cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
