Suggest Treatment For Splenomegaly

Sir, good after noon. Is there any treatment for speenomegaly? spleen of my wife has increased to 20 inches recently. doctor advised to be observed for some more time, since no serious problems except pain up to left shoulder and discomfort in left side of the stomach

There are many causes of spleen enlargement such infections (typhoid, kala azar, infectious mononucleosis), auto-immune disorders such rheumatoid arthritis, lymphoma, portal hypertension, leukemia, storage disorders etc. There are many more causes. Regression of enlarged spleen depends upon cause of enlargement. Enlargement resolves on successful treatment of causative disorder. Cause needs to be investigated first. You have not provided any medical history or concurrent treatment information.
Advice
1.     Ibuprofen 600 mg per oral after meal if pain in intolerable. Otherwise avoid it. If your wife has any liver related disorder then do not take ibuprofen as it will cause further damage of liver
2.     Take bed rest as strenuous work can cause rupture of enlarged spleen which is a life-threatening condition
3.     Investigations – USG whole abdomen, ESR, CBC, Hb%, Liver function test
It is better to consult a doctor for physical examination, proper history, investigations and diagnosis.
