General & Family Physician 's  Response
Quick answer - there may be medical reasons for sparse eyebrows. A primary physician may be able to do some tests for you.

Detailed answer: hair growth patterns do run in families and in ethnic groups. Relatively common medical conditions such as underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) can cause changes in hair growth. Hypothyroidism causes lack of hair in the outer third of the eyebrow, just where you describe. A simple blood test can detect hypothyroidism, which cannot be identified by symptoms alone. Additional tests may be indicated depending on other symptoms you might have to check for other possible causes. In my experience, many people with issues such as yours can do well with simple testing and treatment.
