Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat Along With Painfully Swollen Lymph Nodes

I have a sore throat from a post nasal drip that started a couple of days ago. However, now my right neck gland feels swollen when I swallow and I feel pressure in my jaw and ear. I think my left gland is starting to swell as well. I ache and feel terrible, thus far no fever. The pharmacist told me to take Sudafed to stop the draining down my throat. I been on Sudafed for 24 hours and no relief. What can I take or does this sound bacterial and should I go to a Walgreens clinic to get something stronger - antibiotics. I feel like I got the flu.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have an infection in throat leading to Pharyngitis and tonsillitis and the most common cause of it can be bacterial or viral throat infection..
Although you have post nasal drip that is leading to sore throat but taking Sudafed alone that is a decongestant Pseudoephadrine will not resolve the pain and infection..
Therefore you should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do a throat swab culture to rule out the exact cause of infection and treat you accordingly..
In case of bacterial infection antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and using a humidifier in your room can help..You can also continue Sudafed and take mucolytics like Ambroxol for reducing mucous..
You can also suck throat lozenges and chew a Vitamin C pellet..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods and drink plenty if water.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
