Suggest Treatment For Some Itchy White Spots On The Legs

Hi, After a vacation to Cancun and having my body exposed to Sun for 5 days ( I applied Sun screen every hour), I noticed some white spot on my leg, they were not itchy, so, I did not pay attention to them. However, 2 weeks later, the number of them increased, and now I feel itchy all over my body. I feel like my skin is tender. Also, I feel stingy all over my body. I have a urine burning sensation too. Any idea what it might be? Thanks

Hello,

I understand your concern for itchy white spots on the legs . It appears form your query that the less pigmentation is due to sun burn.

In case of sun burn there is reduced activity of the color producing cells known as melanocytes due to temporary damage to these cells. These produce less color on sun burn and therefore cause more itchy spots and whitish spots of skin. In most of the patients it is self resolving condition and gets better by itself.

In my patients I suggest them to apply a mild steroid lotion such as desonide for few days of period. In most of the patients it is sufficient and the skin gets peeled off to get normal color.

For maintenance therapy If I were your treating doctor then would have prescribed you a cream containing moisturizing factors to be applied at night time.

Do not apply any other medicated cream without medical supervision. Avoid situations of direct continuous sun exposure for long hours.

All the best.
