Suggest Treatment For Soar Throat With Cough And Mucus

Sick for 3 days, Heavy cough, yellow mucus, really severe sore throat. Have had bronchitis multiple times, seems similar, except I didn't have a cold/sinus first, and I've never had a sore throat this bad- can't sleep, can't take cough drop because hurts too much to swallow. Thoughts? Thanks!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that the symptoms of cough, yellow mucous and sore throat are due to severe upper respiratory tract infection, also known as Common Cold while can also be due to Influenza or Flu..

Both the conditions are due to viral infection and will however resolve once the virus will complete its cycle in human body..
As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
1. Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..
2. Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytic like Ambroxol and anti allergic levocetrizine and another combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen..
3.Take cough expectorant containing Gueifenesin and cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan..
4. Do steam inhalations and use a cool mist humidifier in your room..
5. Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
6. Sip on plenty of warm water throughout the day and also take other warm fluids and soft foods...

In case of no improvement consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can advise investigations like sputum culture, throat swab culture, complete blood picture, chest x ray and treat according to the cause..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
