Suggest Treatment For Smelly Red Rash On Arm

Male, 36, 6 1 260. I have torn ligaments in my right shoulder and it is hard/impossible for me to lift it above my head. Under some pain, I lifted my arm today and there is a small red rash that smells horrible. I sprayed some over the counter micoconazole spray on it and it burned like holy hell. Was that the right thing to do? What can I do besides going to a dermatologist (as I have no time nor money to do so)?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of smelly red rash on arm which seems to be due to contact dermatitis. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction, psoriasis , skin infection, fungal infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to keep your skin clean and dry , protect it from sun. Avoid touching or pricking rashes. You should apply only petroleum jelly and take antihistamine like benadryl twice a day. If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may order certain test like skin patch test , blood test , allergy test and take history to rule out the side effects of certain drug . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants along with anti inflammatory and corticosteroid ointment.
