Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started taking metformin beginning of October. I took it religiously until about nov 12 because I was having terrible side effects. My periods had been regular until then. I usually get my period between the 1st and 3rd of each month. I was due to get it dec 1 but until today I ve had nothing. When I took an ovulation test in nov (I took two) neither came back positive, however, we continued trying. Am I pregnant or has metformin disrupted my cycle? I m scared to test and get a negative result.
As a physician I would like to tell you that you must have been prescribed Metformin for PCOD condition. I would also like to tell you that Metformin does not disrupt your menstrual cycle. You should take a urine pregnancy test at home instead of ovulation test after your missed period. It is difficult to get pregnant with conditions like PCOD and thus I suggest you should keep patience and keep on trying. You will get positive results in coming times.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Abhijeet
