sir I'm a final year MBBS student from Bangladesh. I'm suffering from left sided small pleural effusion which was diagnosed by USG & CXR. now i've prblem of shortnaess of breath after sleeping and there is no h/o asthma and tb in my family. i've done anti tb antibody which was also nagative. my esr is 6 mm in 1st hour. what can i do now?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Most common cause for pleural effusion is pneumonia (lung infection). So better to start broad spectrum antibiotic like amoxicillin clavulinic acid with azithromycin. Take these drugs for 7 days. Get done repeat chest x ray and ultrasound. If effusion is resolving then no need to worry. But if effusion is worsening then get done pleural fluid aspiration and send for microscopic examination.
