Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went to the urgent care today for sharp pain in my ear. The doctor looked in my ear and saw hardened ear wax and removed it via flush. The doctor then checked my ear again, said there was no more blockage, and that it didnt appear to be an infection. Maybe after about an hour the sharp pain came back even worse. Do I have an ear infection?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sharp pain in the ears. The probable reason is ear infection , because there is pain . Sometime infection spread to ears through eustachian tube , when upper respiratory track infection is left untreated . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper checkup and treatment . Doctor will examine ear and throat physically and ears with otoscope and rule out causes like wax buildup and temporomandibular problem . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin) at least for 10 days along with anti inflammatory drugs . For now keep your ears dry and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . Also apply dry warm compresses on on external ear twice a day and take ibuprofen for pain.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
