Suggest Treatment For Severe Treatment-resistant Depression

what do you do when you have had severe treatment-resistant depression for about 15 years. we have honestly tried every combo you can imagine and then some.... I did ECT, 10 sessions and might as well have stayed home and taken Flintstone Vitamins. Not 1 clinical trial will take me because they say the chances of me getting better are minimal and they need success stories. Oh yeah, there was one Dr. that said he would give DBS a try, no thanks. So I inhale and exhale and the days go by, with no joy or happiness. At this point I think my dr. who is wonderful, is trying to buy some more time hoping something will come our way that just might work. I live in Richmond, Va and have seen all of the top Doctors for 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinions and they all agree I have done all there is to do. I have zero hope and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks a lot!

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. A depressive disorder is not a passing blue mood but rather persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression can be managed (treated) with drugs and/or therapy.

Usually anti-depressants should work. In your case, you say your depression is treatment - resistant. But that cannot be so. Because varying doses of anti-depressants should be able to control your depression. You should talk to your psychiatrist regarding this.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy (IPT)—have been shown to be effective in treating depression. By teaching new ways of thinking and behaving, CBT helps people change negative styles of thinking and behaving that may contribute to their depression. You should talk to a psychotherapist / psychologist to know more about these therapies.

Don't leave hope. There are many options. You will find perfect one at the perfect time.
