Suggest Treatment For Severe Toothache

Okay. Here's my story. I had a TERRIBLE toothache on Monday, August 1. I called an IV Sedation dentist. They got me in that afternoon and scheduled surgery for August 5. I have been on Amoxicillin since then. It's 500 mg 3 times a day. I have been experiencing diarrhea off and on since then. I have 3 more tablets left. Would it be okay to stop taking it?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe toothache which seems to be due to systemic infection which is due to badly carious tooth and formation of abscess in that area. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit dentist once and get IOPA( X-RAY) done to check extent of infection as chances of bone involvement is there. Yes you can stop taking Amoxicillin as diarrhea is due to intake of antibiotics. You can start with alternative course of antibiotics and milder dosage. Go for extraction of tooth and any surgical procedure/restorative procedure if required. Maintain hygiene of oral cavity. Take proper course of Ibuprofen and Diclofenac.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
