Suggest Treatment For Severe Tooth Pain

I suffered with a second toothache after neglecting a molar that cracked several years ago. After excruciating pain for two days and two nights - I had the initial root canal procedure on yesterday. Needless to say I feel WAY better. It was little swelling before the procedure. Apparently there was a small degree of infection. Most of the infection drained on yesterday. I was prescribed an antibiotic and pain relief. I began taking it on yesterday. There is still some swelling - my concern is how long will this last? I am waiting to take the third dosage of the antibiotic. Happy to report there is no pain. But the swelling in the lower jaw?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain and the description that you have given it seems that you have a Dental Abscess due to pus formation below the root tips of the tooth secondary to infection leading to swelling..

As the root canal treatment is started the pus has started draining off and there is reduction in swelling due to draining off the pus and also reduced infection..
As some level of swelling is left it is due to residual pus and also inflammation..

Nothing to worry as the remaining swelling will get resolved in 3 to 4 days when the pus will be drained off completely in the next sitting..
A course of antibiotics can also be given to you for faster relief from infection along with anti inflammatory painkillers and serratiopeptidases..
As of now do cool compresses over the swelling..
Avoid chewing from the side where the tooth is being treated..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
