Suggest Treatment For Severe, Right Rib Pain In A Geriatric Patient
My mother is nearly 92 and is having severe pain on her right rib, but it s not near the breast area. She is on Tramadol and heat patches. I cannot get her to go to the doctor. She has not fallen or bumped against anything. This came on over night while she was sleeping. Any suggestions?
Hello! Thank you for writing us here. Well what a possible reason for pain in ribs is costochondritis. It is mainly due to bacterial infection. Heat patches would help the pain and also I would suggest to go for a 7 day course of antibiotics. Amoxicillin would do well and for pain, a tablet paracetamol would be good. She will be alright in a couple of weeks don't worry. Regards, Dr Gunjan
