Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Left Side Of Sternum

I have moderate to severe pain on inhalation at the left side of the sternum at the junction of the ribs- level with top of breast- about 2-3 inches from top of sternum. Pain when turning onto my side in bed and to get out out of bed. Ibuprofen does not help. Last night sitting in the recliner and wearing a tight bra, the pain was EXCRUCIATING! I d like to get the name of a doctor in the metro Atlanta area, to get a thorough evaluation. This has been going on for about a year. Patsy Dean

Hello,

Thank you for writing to HCM about your query,

Brief Answer -
Sternum pain is usually caused by an injury to the chest area.

Explained answer -

Causes of Sternum Pain -

Heartburn can cause the lower sternum to suffer from radiating pain. This is more common when you become pregnant.

Costochondritis is one of the most common causes of sternum pain. Costochondritis is caused by a minor injury to the sternum or the rib cage. Overstressing the muscles or ligaments in the chest can lead to this condition.

Surgery. People who have been through surgery near the chest may experience sternum pain after their procedure.
If the healing process does not go smoothly, this pain can linger for several years after the initial procedure.

Panic attack. Those who suffer from anxiety may suffer from sternum pain on the onset of a panic attack. This pain can feel very similar to a heart attack, but will be brought on by stress or apprehension.

Hope You will find it out helpful.

Thanks And Regards,
