Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain After Root Canal Treatment

I had a root canal yesterday. Was in extreme pain today and went back to have tooth shaved down a bit. Was fine for four hours and now for the first time there is intense pain on back of tooth both with air/taking a breath as well as with mouth closed; it has nothing to do with the bite. Do I need to go back yet another time or will that correct itself soon? The new permanent crown will be put on next week.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe pain after root canal treatment which seems to be due to leftover infection even after root canal and as you can feel pain even after breathing seems to be due to hypersensitivity which is due to attrition of teeth( shaving). Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult an endodontist again and get evaluated. Doctor can take X-ray of tooth and check for underlying infection and doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory. Avoid intake of sharp and sticky food. Your symptoms will resolve in 1-2 weeks. Brush with sensodyne tooth paste to seal dentinal tubules. Do warm saline rinses and maintain hygiene of oral cavity.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
