Suggest Treatment For Severe Lower Back Pain

I have had severe back pain for the past week. I have been off and on painkillers and muscle relaxers for these days. The doctor whom I consulted told me that exercise would correct my lower back pain issues. But the pain still persists. Can physiotherapy help for this? A friend of mine suggested to do the treatment from any registered physiotherapy clinic in Mississauga where we live(http://www.physionow.ca/areas-of-injuries/low-back-pain-treatment ). Is there something else I need to get treated for a normal recovery? I cannot sleep at night and wake constantly in a great deal of pain. What can you make of this?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain back ache or back pain can occur due to causes like Lumber strain, nerve irritation caused due to damage of discs present between the vertebra known as Lumbar Radiculoopathy,Bone encroachment causing nerve compression, degenerative joints and Osteoarthritis..
At times disorders related to kidneys can also cause back pain..
I would suggest you to consult an Orthopedician and get evaluated and a clinical examination and investigations like x ray, MRI scan, electromyograms, nerve conduction studies etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done according to the cause conformed..
You can be advised to take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, muscle relaxant like Tizanidine, application of analgesic ointments and tying back support belts or brace..
Physiotherapy can be very helpful but should be done under supervision of trained Physiotherapist who has a better knowledge of what to follow under certain diagnoses..
Avoid sitting or standing for long hours..
Avoid excess straining and take appropriate rest..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
