Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I get terrible headaches several times a month. They are in and around my brow bones, on one side or the other. They alternate, but never on both side at the same time. The pain radiates up towards my forehead sometimes. It feels a little better if I press the painful brow or pull my hair at the root on my hairline. The headaches start in the afternoon and peak in the evening. OTC pain meds don t do much for them. The only thing that helps is a hot shower, sleep, and time. Sometimes they last all night but I usually wake up in the morning and it is mostly or completely gone. What are these headaches and what can I do about them? They don t seem to fit the category of any headache I ve researched.
It is possible that you are suffering from migraines which can be very painful and disruptive to some persons.
There are pain medications that are specific for migraines that you can try since the OTC meds are not effective. Eg sumatriptan, eletriptan, zolmitriptan, rizatriptan You would need a prescription from your doctor
If the headaches are still a problem, you may need prophylactic medications- these are medications that reduce the frequency of the migraines
I hope this helps
