Suggest Treatment For Severe Diarrhea
Have had watery diarreah no blood for 10 days now but not all the time? Sometimes stool consistency of mud and when it hits I have no control at all. I do have MS but has stayed mild no relapses since 2001 also type 2 diabetes but keep it under control. I am scared to leave my house as cannot even get 10 feet to a bathroom having to wear an attends. Some days nothing just when have to go its like this?????? Never had this kind of problem before? I am an RN but this is scaring me? What should I do? Should I load up on immodium? Thank you very distressed re this as I live alone and stuck at home due to this problem. I am 67.

Severe diarrhea (watery stools) since 10 days could be because of drug induced or infective,(gastroenteritis) but it should be treated promptly before patient go in hypovolemic shock (tachycardia, hypotension,rapid breathing, giddiness, fever etc).
Your MS and type-ii diabetes would not have much role or will get affected by the diarrhea most probably.
You must undergo routine blood investigations and electorlytes,liver and kidney function tests,urinalysis and stool for blood,abdominal ultrasound to detect the underlying cause.
Therefore,you should be given injectable antibiotics with fluid and electrolyte replacement therapy.
You can take immodium but first the underlying cause should be detected,so that we can plan further management.
I don't think so you should wait for more time,consult your family physician by visiting ER.
