My daughter is 19 years old. Since the Middle of November, she has been experiencing chest pain. She says she wakes up in the morning with the pain. It started right around finals time November 15th. It has continued with several episodes 2 x s a week since November 15. Now this is happening everyday. The pain starts at her left collar bone and goes over to her left shoulder. Then drops down about 5 inches over her heart. She pain also shuts down her left arm and sometimes wraps around her wrist. This occurs when she wakes up. IN November it would stop after 25 minutes. Now it is lasting 1.5 hours. Could this be stress? She has left college this quarter.
Thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your daughter's situation and problem. In my opinion we should first rule of cardiac cause as he is having left shoulder and arm pain. Her age (18) is too young for cardiac disease, but better to rule out it first. So get done ecg. If ecg is normal then no need to worry much for cardiac cause. Stress and anxiety can be the cause for her symptoms. So consult psychiatrist and get done counselling sessions. Try to identify stressor in her life and start working on its solution. Ask her to avoid stress and tension and be relax and calm. She may need anxiolytic drugs too. Don't worry, she will be alright.
