Suggest Treatment For Severe Back Pain And Bladder Infection

My daughter has back pain on both sides by the kidneys. Hurts to push on them. Three weeks ago she had blood in her urine and they thought she had a bladder infection. The bacteria was negative. She then had an ultrasound and everything was normal with the kidneys and bladder. They then ordered a CT scan and a second urine sample. The urine sample was clean and the CT scan showed everything was fine. Her back pain has been constant. Went back in for another urine sample a few days ago and it was extremely high level of protein. They sent her for a full round of blood work. All of the blood work came back normal. Not sure what to do now.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Dear. High levels of protein in urine suggests some infection or damage to the kidneys. It may be due to lot of reasons. The most common cause especially in females is urinary tract infection leading to infection of kidney. Ask your daughter to drink lot of water, coconut water, fresh fruit juice etc. If you have already taken some antibiotics before sending urine sample for lab test, then it may come as normal report. Its better that your daughter gets treated for urinary tract infection. Consult a urologist at a tertiary care hospital.
Other causes for backache like problems of vertebra and disc prolapse can be ruled out by further consultation with an orthopedician.
Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
