Suggest Treatment For Scoliosis In A Teenager

My son has scoliosis that began when he started growing. It is severe, a curve of 56 degrees. He has no pain and a small amount of disfigurement. My sons surgeon wants to do sugary. He is 16 years old. I am concerned about the bad reviews the surgery gets. Having trouble deciding if the risks are worth it. I am looking into Scolismart. Surgeon feels that is not a viable choice. Any advice?

Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.
Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Saddiq-ul-Abidin. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.
I am sorry to know what the problem is with your son but thanks to advanced surgical techniques these days that it can pretty much be corrected.

You son is young and growing and he can recover a surgery better than any older person so I will suggest you to get the surgery done if your doctor suggests so.
I will second your doctor in saying that surgery is a better option compared to Scolismart if he is having a 56 degree bend which is quite significant.

I would suggest you a few things which might help you decide well:
1)You can take second ,third or fourth opinion by other neuro-spinal surgeons.
2) You can discuss in detail the benefits and risks of the surgery.
3) Here in such surgeries there are always side effects, what we have to do is that we have to as following questions to the doctors.T make a decision with clear mind.

1)Do we really have to get a surgery?
2)hen the question comes, do we have to do it right now or should we wait? 3)Then comes the question if he gets taller and grows will the bend get worsened?
4)should we wait till he has grown till his full potential?
5) Is benefit of the surgery more than the side effects?
6) What are the chances?

When you will get these answers clearly , your mind will automatically get cleared out and decision making will get way easier for you.

I hope this answered your question. If you have more queries I am happy to answer.Otherwise rate and close the discussion
