Suggest Treatment For Restrictive Cardiomyopathy
My mother , female aged 58 is suffering from restrictive cardiomyopathy. She has suffered massive weight loss over the past three years. currently she has frequent bouts of stomach bloating, pedal edema, breathlessness, fatigue. Is there a permanent cure ? have heard some pacemakers, external machines can help ? is this advisable?

The treatment for restrictive cardiomyopathy is medical management including diuretics, drugs increasing filling of the heart like beta blockers and nitrates. The total daily water intake should also be restricted because the heart loses its distensibility and does not accumulate even the normal amount of blood that it can accomodate. So any extra fluid will cause fluid overload and symptoms like feet swelling, breathlessness, right sided abdominal pain, facial swelling and liver issues. Pacemakers and external devices
are of no use in restrictive cardiomyopathy. Only if her heart pumping function is reduced and the the two ventricles are not beating in synchrony or she has got rhythm disturbances, she would benefit with pacemaker and external devices. Itherwise main line of management would be medications.
