General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for posting your problem to HCM.

From your description there are 3 possibilities that the problem might be:
1) A bacterial infection. In general it affects one eye in the beginning, but after may affect the other eye also. There is pain in the eye, not so much itching, but the secretions are yellow and sticky. In general it goes away with a anticiotic drop treatment, for a week, or less.
2) A viral infection. It affects both eyes, and its highly contagious, so if some from your close people have had the same infection, then this might be the case. Its with watery or yellow secretions, depending on the case, little itchy, and it should heal by itself in 1-2 weeks.
3) An allergic infection. From what you have written above looks the most probable cause, because it may last as long as you are in contact with the allergen. It gives lots of tears, and watery secretions, itchiness. I cant tell what are the drops that your doctor has prescribed you, but most probably they are some anti allergic one since they help you.

If I was your caring doctor, I would suggest you to be careful and notice if the contact of a plant or a place you are living recently, or what have changed in your life when this problem started. There are also some tests, called the Allergy skin tests, who might determine what causes the infection to be repeated. I would suggest you discuss this with an allergy doctor, and according the results of the analyse, you take the necessary measures.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Regards,
Dr. Klarida
