Suggest Treatment For Red And Tender Bartholin Cyst

I have a Bartholin cyst. I believe abscessed. This cyst occurred about 3 weeks ago after day 4 I went to the doctor. I was prescribed antibiotics and given a shot of an antibiotic. After the first day on the medicine I felt much better the pain was gone. But now 2 weeks later the cyst is still here. The size of a very large marble. Very red, tender. I notice almost a dark brown redish area on the cyst. So my question is, is there a possibility the cyst will rupture on its own or am I going to have to get this lanced, could I be putting myself at harm by not having a procedure done. My first trip to the doctor, doc said cyst was abscessed but not ready to lance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com
This is Dr. Swarnava dattagupta answering your query.

I understand your concern.
see, bartholin cysts are generally small and are successfully treated with antibiotics. however, they tend to recur but do not cause a problem and antibiotic treatment are enough.
but some cysts are larger and not managed medically like the one you have. in these cases, surgical treatment like incision and drainage are advised with antibiotic coverage.
i would suggest you to go to a surgeon and get it incised and the pus drained for quick and better cure.

Hope i have answered your question.
If you have any further questions i will be happy to help.
Regards
