Suggest Treatment For Red And Sore Scar After Appendix Removal

i had my appendix out many yrs ago , but the scar has reddened and is sore. the last time this happened , my Dr. prescribed an ointment for fungus and it healed. Now, a year later, the skin has reddened again and is sore, due to the top skin folding over the scar, and the fungus is back. I am concerned that the incision could open. has that ever occurred with patients? The incision was not made carefully and has always had this fold of skin above the scar, not allowing air there. Can a person have an old incision redone? Just wondering

Hello,

I can understand your concern for red and sore scar after appendix removal.
I can get from your history that you got appendix removed quite long time back and since that time you hae got bit of redness and pain over the scar.

In your case there are chances of a typical phenomenon called a “foreign body Granuloma” which can cause the recurrence of the redness and soreness over the incision site.

In my patients I usually prefer to explore the area and clean the area to remove any chance of infection. A course of oral antibiotic such as cefixime or ciprofloxacin reduces the chances of infection.

I suggest you to meet a surgeon or a dermatologist where a through analysis of the area can be done to check the area properly and to ensure the strength of the wound.
