My six-month old son first developed a fever of 103.8 rectally 16 days ago. Four days later, he had a bark-like cough and was having trouble breathing. We took him to the emergency room where he was diagnosed with croup and prescribed prednisone to open up his airway. It is now 12 days after that and he seems to not be feeling well again and he has a cough that sounds productive but I haven t seen mucous yet. Also, his temperature is now 100.4 rectally which isn t as concerning as the cough. Should I be concerned that his croup developed into a more serious infection, or may he just be coming down with a cold?
Hi, thanks for your query your son might be having a viral or infective cough. May not be croup.. give him nebulization with Levolin and budecort. Expectorant cough syrup 2.5 ml twice daily. Calpol for fever. Wait and watch to start antibiotic. Of symptoms persists or worsens then please consult with your doctor and get evaluated.
