Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Mouth Sores

Hello. I'm 61 year old female. I've had sores in the corners of my mouth for about 3weeks. They get better but then get worse. One side will heal but not the other side, then it switches sides. I've been rinsing my mouth with medicated mouth wash twice a day and putting topical antifungal cream and Neosporin. Is there anything else I can do?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms as you are already using antimicrobial as well as antifungal ointments and antimicrobial mouth wash but still in case if it does not heal and keeps recurring there is a possibility that you have viral infection casing cold sores and is caused be HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS 1.
They occur as fluid filled blisters and although it is self limiting and resolves in 2 weeks or even less but recurrences can be seen..

So it is better to consult a Dermatologist or an Oral Physician and get evaluated and viral culture can be done to confirm the diagnosis and in case if it is due to herpes antivital oral and topical medication like Acyclovir, Valacyclovir can be advised to you for relief..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
