Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Hives Caused Due To Poison Ivy Contact
I contacted poison ivy and am on my third round of steroids because the rash/hives keep reappearing after I get to the end of the 10-14 day scheduled doses. I am not in contact with any poison ivy oils - it seems it just keeps popping out... How long could this go on - I don t want to keep taking the prednisone much longer.
Hi Poison ivy rashes if not too extensive may not necessarily require medications.Self-care may help and the rash always goes away on it own in 2 to 3 weeks.Wide spread rash may be treated with a steroid as your case.Antibiotics are at times indicated if the lesion become infected.Recurrent hives will need further examination by your Doctor to see if antibiotics may be indicated. In the meantime, some home based measures may help you -You may apply calamine oil on the rash -Loratidine, an antihistaminic may help you -Cover your body well when going out -Rinse you body with cold soapy water when in contact with plants during your out doors activities -Place cold wet compress on the rash for say 15 minute many times per day If the rashes persist with all these, see your Doctor again for reevaluation Hope my answer will help you Best regards
