Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Ear Infection

I recently went to the dr for a sore ear . The canal was closed shut and for no reason. My ear srum was fine, but there was a bit of discharge in there as well. She gave me some drops to apply three times a day. I woke up this morning, and no the other ear (the right one) is hurting and swollen. I have been sticking the same drops in it, and putting the heating pad over it for comfort. Can ear infections jump from ear to ear? It was just weird now the non-problem ear is giving me problems. Thank you, Tandbgoss

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

The ear pain might be because of excess wax depositions in the ear canal or otitis media or labyrynthitis etc but it needs to be evaluated further with proper clinical examination of ear and some relevant investigations.

You will require oral and topical antibiotics (quinolones or cephalosporins group preferred) with analgesics and antiinflammatory with other supportive treatment.

The important thing is to diagnose first means which problem causes repeated ear pain.

It is quite uncommon that if there is pain or infection in one ear may spread to the other ear.

You must consult ENT specialist if that drops has not given any relief.

Don't worry you will be alright after that.

Regards,
