Suggest Treatment For Rashes On The Lips

I feel I burned my lips last week got home Tues. when I noticed it. Camping. I went to dr yesterday and they prescribed Acyclovir 800 mg 5 times a day. today still the same. Its a rash all over my lips and on my tongue. I remembered when I took motorhome to dump station before coming home, when I pulled the sewage plug it splashed. I'm not sure if I got it on my lips but now Im scared I might have. I'm just impatient in waiting for this Medicine to start working. I was using chap stick but noticed after this started that it was one without spf . what do you think? just be patient? thank you

Hi,

As per your complain rashes over the lips can be due to causes like allergic reaction to any skin cosmetic or can also be due to any food or medication. It can also be due to viral infection if there are small eruptions or bumps over the lips. The medications advised to you that is Acyclovir is an antiviral medication but should be taken only after proper investigations that it is a viral infection.

I would suggest you to consult an Infectious medicine specialist or an Allergist and get evaluated and investigations can be done accordingly like allergic tests if allergic reaction is suspected while viral culture and antigen antibody reaction if viral infection is suspected..Medicines can be advised accordingly. As of now you can do cool compresses over the lips, apply Calamine lotion to soothe them. You can also take Levocetrizine if there is itching.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
