Suggest Treatment For Pus Formation At Open Heart Surgery Site

My father had a open heart surgery a few weeks ago and he has a pus accumulation in the middle of his chest. This is along the area which was cut open for the surgery. He now has developed high fever overnight and also has some body pains. What has to be done now?

Hi welcome to HCM.
Open heart surgery can lead to pus formation on the chest. This needs to be promptly resolved before it spreads internally. I advise you to have a baseline ecg and CT scan chest to determine the plane of abscess cavity. Culture and sensitivity of the pus has to be ordered to determine the antibiotics to be needed. Exploration and surgical evacuation is needed in cases of resistant pus. Fever can be treated with antipyretics and analgesics. Consult your cardiologist for further queries.
Thank you.
