Suggest Treatment For Pulmonary Fibrosis

My mom has pulmonary fibrosis and had heart surgery two years ago to replace one of her valves. She is also a heavy drinker, primarily white whine and sometimes she takes ambien and then has a glass of white whine. Her excuse is that's she's dying, but she's making zero effort to get better other than taking her meds- with alcohol. What could the longterm outcome be and how can I help a stubborn lady like herself?

Hi welcome to HCM.
Pulmonary fibrosis is known to worsen with intake of alcohol.Valve replacement can only improve the symptoms but will not offer complete cure of underlying condition. The metabolism of various drugs which are indicated to control fibrosis of lung can enhance leading to their reduced efficacy. In patients who are non compliant to absteen from alcohol, desensitizers like Disulphiram can be used under a deaddiction expert.Psychodynamic psychotherapy also often yields good results.Consult your doctor for further queries.
Thank you
