Suggest Treatment For Prolonged Constipation

I suffer from constipation every day for the last year and a half. No matter what I have tried nothing seems to help it. it is very uncomfortable and it just seems to be getting worse. Last night it felt like inside my stomach was being ripped and that I was trying to poop out a watermelon, it was the most pain I have ever felt. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
* Constipation you have needs to be investigated medically with consultation of a gastroenterologist for finding any infection/worm infestation/ amoebiasis as a cause . Followed by specific treatment.
* Lifestyle changes like-
- having high fiber diet along with plenty of water.
- Exercises ( walking/ yoga exercises for abdominal muscles) daily,
- forming a regular bowel habit.
- use of laxatives/ glycerine suppositories to start with-- followed by regular bowel movement due to changed life style.
Thanks
