Suggest Treatment For Pneumonia And Fever

Husband was diagnosed with pneumonia with a temp over 103. Doctor prescribed Zpack and ibuprofen for fever. It s been 7 days and he is sleeping a lot and complains of weakness if he moves around. Coughing a lot with a rattle sound in his chest but no fever. Can the pneumonia still be in his lungs? He is a 60 year old male with sinus and allergy problems; otherwise in good health. He did take the flu shot

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your husband's situation and problem.
In my opinion you should consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Repeat chest x ray
2. Sputum culture and sensitivity report.
Since he is not improving and still having cough and congestion with fever, even after antibiotics, we need to rule out worsening of underlying pneumonia.
So chest x ray is needed for this.
Sputum culture will isolate the causative organism and sensitivity report will guide you about effective antibiotic therapy.
By this, we can achieve faster recovery.
So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
Appropriate antibiotic treatment is the main thing in pneumonia treatment.
