Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a very fit and active 40 year old male.6 foot and of muscular build. No congenital medical issues that I am aware of.I have been working for the last week using my hands in a squeezing motion. Now, I wake up with pins and needles in my hands and my forearms are sore.No doubt the two are related, I am just unsure about the actual diagnosis, prognosis and treatment.Rest? and it will be ok?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Mukesh Chugh's Response
Hi Thanks for your query After going through your description of suffering the most likely treatable cause is- Carpal tunnel syndrome that is nerve (Median) compression at wrist. This leads to numbness and tingling sensation in thumb, index finger and difficulty in doing fine work. May be confirmed by nerve study (EMG/NCV). The definitive treatment is small surgical procedure in which the tissue causing nerve compression is released. Meanwhile you can give her tricyclic antidepressant like pregablin after having a word with your local doctor. Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query Regards Dr.mukesh chugh http://bit.ly/d
I have studied your case. Due to compression of this nerve root there is tingling numbness in your arm and fingers pain associated with it. I will advise you to MRI cervical spine for better diagnosis.
For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started. Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help. Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief. I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level. As you have elbow symptoms origin of nerve compression can be at ulnar nerve near elbow.
Shoulder crack can be due to rotator cuff injury or arthropathy. If required MRI shoulder may help in diagnosis.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care
