My mom is 67 yr. old.She was in ER on 12/1/14 bec. of persistent lower abdominal pain that s been ongoing for more than a week now. They did abdominal CT & UTS which is negative. The symptoms started a day after she took Cipro ABT for UTI.Also she mentioned that on that day she also ate a 2 weeks old cooked fish from the fridge (not freezer).until now the pain is still there. She s been eating very poorly and very weak that she stays in her room 95% of the time. Her usual level activity is she s usu. very independent and even helps with house chores .She has hx of GERD & Peptic Ulcer dis. and tubal ligation in 1970 s. Last Aug. she had cardiac stent & pacemaker placement as well. Other hx are: HTN, hi- cholesterol ,PTB in 70 s.She said her pain extends from L to R on her lower abd. below umbilical area. I don t know what to do next. Another complain is constipation fr. taking Norco.

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

This kind of persistent lower abdominal pain could be due genito urinary infection like acute urinary infection or bilateral renal stone but should be investigated further by various tests.

without complete examination and investigation,it is very difficult to predict some differential diagnosis.

Here, we will need to evaluate it further by doing routine blood works, urinalysis and ultrasound whole abdomen with KUB region even if it has been done earlier.

She may require antibiotics (quinolones- levofloxacin or nitrofurantoin) with analgesic,anti-inflammatory and searriopeptidase to reduce pain.

Syrup creamffin plus 3TSF at bed time for constipation.

She may continue her ongoing treatment for GERD,peptic ulcer and hypertension.

As some of the medications are prescription based then she will need to some local doctor or urologist for complete history and examination.

Regards,
